<p>The <strong>UConn Huskies’</strong> male <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">college basketball</a> team is coming off a disappointing season. Their struggles weren’t so common for a team coming off back-to-back championships.</p>



<p>Notably, that’s why<strong> Dan Hurley </strong>knew he had to get to work and bring in some high-level help in the transfer portal. He did so by bringing in forward Dwayne Koroma (Le Moyne), forward Jacob Ross (Minnesota), and guard Alec Millender (IU Indianapolis).</p>

<p>The<strong> championship-winning</strong> coach then went on to talk about Ross and Millender, both of whom are expected to embrace a big role for his program right out of the gay. </p>



<p><strong><em>“Jacob Ross obviously comes from a great family we know well and will fit in seamlessly with our culture,”</em></strong> Hurley continued.<em> “He is a gifted athlete who has played on winning teams. We’re excited about his development and can’t wait to get him to campus. <strong>Alec (Millender) is a guard that has played in a ton of games and has consistently leveled up. </strong>He can score, distribute and has turned into an excellent outside shooter. His toughness and game experience will fit in well with our program.”</em></p>

<p>The young <strong>Detroit Pistons</strong> guard didn’t spend much time at UConn, but he thrived and averaged 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 44 percent from behind the arc and 48 percent from the floor in his season there.</p>

Karaban was expected to pursue his lifelong dream of turning pro and <strong>declaring for the<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> NBA </a>Draft before withdrawing from the event.</strong></p>



<p>Nevertheless, as big a news as that was, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that the Huskies will now lose veteran guard <strong>Aidan Mahaney,</strong> who will transfer to play for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.</p>

<p>Mahaney wasn’t much of a factor last season, averaging just 4.5 points and 1.3 assists per game in just 12.3 minutes. However, he was a strong candidate to take a big leap next season <strong>as an experienced veteran</strong>. </p>

<p>Despite being a seasoned veteran and not having anything else to accomplish or prove at this point, Coach Auriemma seems to think that<strong> age is just a number</strong> for him:</p>



<p><strong>“I think when you have the kind of work experience that I have, every day I’m surrounded by people who are alive, they’re young, they’re moving, they’re growing, and you get swept up in all that,”</strong> Auriemma said. “<em>I’m 71 by numbers, but I don’t know that I feel that because every day I’m surrounded by young people. They can call me ‘Gramps’ or ‘Pops’ or whatever they want to call me, but at the end of the day, I feel like I’m having an impact on them, and they’re having an impact on me.”</em></p>

On the other side of that championship showdown was <strong>Dawn Staley and the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/south-carolina">South Carolina Gamecocks</a></strong>, but the head coach likely isn’t losing sleep—especially after pocketing her own impressive season earnings.</p>



<p>The Huskies and Gamecocks have become staple programs in women’s college basketball, with deep runs during the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ncaa">NCAA</a> Tournament <strong>becoming yearly traditions for these schools</strong>, while others see it as once-in-a-lifetime experiences.</p>



<p>Thanks to their remarkable success at their respective programs, both schools had <strong>no hesitation in locking in their head coaches to multi-million dollar deals</strong>. The contracts were massive, but no one in Storrs or Columbia is second-guessing a thing—Auriemma and Staley have more than earned every penny, and their schools <strong>would hand them those deals again in a heartbeat</strong>.</p>



<p>In May 2024, <strong>Auriemma signed a five-year extension with the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/uconn">Huskies</a> worth $18.7 million</strong>, averaging $3.74 million annually, according to <em>USA Today</em>. The contract also includes multiple performance-based bonuses and a $200,000 annual escalator to his base salary. His salary for the upcoming season will be of $3.54 millions.</p>

<h2>Dawn Staley’s contract</h2>



<p>In January 2025, Staley signed the most lucrative contract in women’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball">college basketball</a> history. Her new deal with South Carolina <strong>extended her stay in Columbia through the 2029-30 campaign</strong>. </p>



<p>The three-time national championship-winning coach will earn an <strong>annual salary of $4 million, which includes a $500,000 signing bonus and a $250,000 annual escalator</strong>—bringing the total value to <strong>approximately $25.25 million over five seasons</strong>, per <em>ESPN</em>. </p>



<p>That number doesn’t take into account any performance-based bonuses which the deal includes. During the Gamecocks’ runner-up finish in March Madness 2025, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/college-basketball/while-uconn-hc-geno-auriemma-earned-a-300k-bonus-how-much-would-have-dawn-staley-earned-with-a-national-title">Staley would have earned a $500,000 bonus</a> if they had beaten Auriemma’s Huskies, according to <em>Essentially Sports</em>. </p>

<p>Fulwiley was a big spark off the bench for Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks last season. She played in all 77 games and averaged <strong>11.7 points, 2.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game.</strong></p>

<p>Of course, that’s something that <strong>Geno Auriemma</strong> and the UConn Huskies will take quite seriously. They had Egyptian player Jana El Alffy on their roster last season, and they will add more international players for next year: Gandy Malou-Mamel of Ireland and Blanca Quiñonez of Ecuador.</p>



<p>That’s why, now that UConn announced that the federal government revoked the visas of 13 members of the community, <strong>including 12 students</strong>, coach Auriemma had to share his thoughts on this delicate matter. </p>

I’d be the first coach deported.<strong> It’s a weird time to be in the U.S. But I’m confident that whether it’s with Jana or Blanca, or whoever else down the road, that the goal is to go after the bad people. I don’t think you’re going to find any on my team.”</strong></em></p>

<p>They hoped to have four-star shooting guard<strong> Darius Adams </strong>on campus next season. They landed him over other powerhouses like Alabama, Kansas, Michigan, St. John’s.</p>



<p>The Manasquan, N.J native initially committed to play for UConn because he wanted to be close to home. Now, it seems like <strong>coach Dan Hurley </strong>will have to change his plans.</p>



<h2>Darius Adams wanted to be close to home</h2>



<p><em><strong>“First and foremost, it’s close to home. And then the coaching staff, loved being around them. Their intensity in practice I really like, I want to be pushed hard I want to earn something, so I think I will do that (at UConn),”</strong></em> Adams said.</p>

<p>Clearly, that’s not going to be the case anymore. He will now be up for grabs again, and given his ability to <strong>make shots from all three levels,</strong> he’s going to be highly recruited.</p>

<p>Notably, that’s the standard that <strong>Dan Hurley</strong> has set for himself and the program. However, as we all know by now, you can’t win all the time, and the losses are often louder.</p>



<p>Coach Hurely has never been known for being a good sport after losses. He cusses, <strong>throws temper tantrums</strong>, and rarely takes accountability. Now, we finally know why. </p>



<h2>Dan Hurley says he’s ashamed of losing</h2>



<p><strong><em>“Shame. When you lose, you feel embarrassment that who you are failed. It may seem strange, but this is my life’s work,”</em></strong> Hurley told Esquire.<em> “You pour everything you have into this—building your style of play, developing the players, the skills, the mindset, putting together this team that’s going to be able to achieve and defeat others and win championships. And then when it doesn’t come together like that—it hurts. It’s shame.”</em></p>



<p>Everybody can relate to that sentiment. Then again, as the leader of a basketball program and a mentor for young men, he should be <strong>a little more in control of his emotions at times.</strong></p>

<p>As expected, UConn Huskies star – and now legend – <strong>Paige Bueckers </strong>has turned pro. More specifically, he became the first overall pick and will be heading to the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/wnba" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WNBA</a> to play for the Dallas Wings.</p>



<p>This was far from a surprise, as Bueckers had been a top-ranked prospect for years now. Capping her collegiate career with <strong>a national championship</strong> only helped her case.</p>



<p>However, she knows she wouldn’t be able to do this on her own. That’s why, right after hearing<strong> her name called in the WNBA Draft, </strong>she made sure to give her teammates their flowers. </p>



<h2>Paige Bueckers credits her teammates for stellar college career</h2>



<p>“<strong><em>They changed my life,”</em></strong> Bueckers said. <em>“Those are my sisters, just extremely grateful for them. They mean everything to me. All that they’ve helped me get through. All the ups and downs, the highs and lows. They’ve seen every side of me and the love there is unconditional. I wanna cherish that relationship for the rest of my life and I wouldn’t be here without them.”</em></p>
