The New York Knicks were just two wins away from reaching the NBA Finals for the first time in over two decades. Now, they’re back in the hunt for a new head coach.
Letting Tom Thibodeau go was a risky gamble, and it shows that this team firmly believes in this core’s potential to go all the way. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see who they hire to replace him.
According to David Cobb of CBS Sports, there’s a chance that UConn’s Dan Hurley might consider taking the job, even after infamously turning down the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason.
UConn could be a candidate to coach the Knicks
“Instead of a franchise anchored by a star approaching 40 — as James was last summer — and another over 30 (Anthony Davis), Hurley would be considering an organization with a core in its championship-pursuing prime. With Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart under contract for at least three more seasons each, the Knicks have a strong, proven nucleus in place,” wrote Cobb.

Needless to say, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Knicks are even interested in hiring the former national championship-winning coach, but he’s already drawn consideration from NBA sides.
Perhaps he didn’t handle things the right way last season and closed some doors in the pros because of that. But from a pragmatic standpoint, he should at least be on their shortlist.
