As the Indiana Fever prepare for one of their most anticipated seasons in years, all eyes are on Caitlin Clark. Now entering her second year in the WNBA, she leads a promising young team that features Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, with former WNBA Coach of the Year Stephanie White now at the helm. And White has already pointed out an aspect of Clark’s past season she wants to improve this year.
In a recent interview on the Good Follow Show, White addressed one of Clark’s biggest challenges from her rookie season: the number of technical fouls. Clark picked up six technicals last year, just one shy of a suspension. “It’s the nagging ones, right?” White said. “Like getting on the official and continuing to nag… That’s my job.”
To support that development, White has suggested that Clark lean on franchise legend Tamika Catchings, who also played with intensity but learned to keep it under control. “The goal is not to stifle it,” White explained. “It’s helping her maintain a constructive channel for a lot of that competitive spirit.”
Clark has acknowledged the issue herself. During the NCAA Tournament Championship broadcast with Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird, she said she plans to cut back on technicals and predicted she would not go over two in the upcoming season.

On the other hand, White has already pointed to Clark’s physical improvements over the offseason. Speaking on a podcast in February, she said, “She is stronger, first and foremost… She’s done a great job of getting in the weight room and focusing on her strength, in terms of low center of gravity, time under tension.” But building strength is just one part of Clark’s growth as a pro.
