Finally, the Duke Blue Devils were crowned champions in the ACC Championship after defeating the Louisville Cardinals, with the notable absence of their star player, Cooper Flagg. The team’s standout is still recovering from a serious ankle injury, and it was his coach, Jon Scheyer, who addressed his situation ahead of the upcoming March Madness.
After the victory, where his team ultimately triumphed decisively over the Cardinals, one of the obvious questions for Duke‘s coach was whether he had any certainty about Flagg’s presence in the upcoming March Madness the following week.
According to reports from Conor O’Neill via his official X (formerly Twitter) account @ConorONeill_DI, Scheyer appeared optimistic about the presence of his star player in such a major event.
“Trending in a great way where Cooper will be ready to play right away in the NCAA tournament,” O’Neill posted about the words of the Blue Devils’ head coach.
However, there’s a twist in the story, as according to reports from Chris Lea on his X account, the HC did not confirm 100% Flagg’s presence for the next game: “Jon Scheyer says he did not confirm that Cooper Flagg would play next week, but says that’s his intention. Says he’s not sure where the earlier report came from @WRAL,” Lea said via @ChrisLeaTV.
Scheyer’s confidence in winning the ACC Championship
The Blue Devils achieved their first major goal by becoming ACC Champions after defeating the Louisville Cardinals decisively. Once the game was over, Jon Scheyer issued a big statement following his team’s victory.
“I told our team right away [at the start of the season], I believe if we approach it the right way, one day at a time, when we have opportunities to win a championship like this, we’ll be ready for it,” Scheyer said to the press.
“Not to put up Day 1, San Antonio or ACC regular-season championship or ACC tournament championship. Our guys have taken it to heart,” he also added.
