Eugenio Suárez was the most productive player for the Seattle Mariners during Game 5 against the Blue Jays, driving in five RBIs to secure the win for his team. After the game, he sent a direct message to the fans, clarifying that he and his teammates are there to take the team all the way to a World Series.
“Our fans have been waiting a long time for this moment and we are here to give it to them,” Suárez told Tom Verducci of Fox, making it known that they are focused on winning a championship and competing until they reach the final series for the ring. He personally labeled his late home run for the Mariners as the biggest of his career.
“You gotta stay in the fight and never quit,” was part of Suárez’s rallying message, as he acknowledged the relentless support the Mariners fans have given the team all year. Regarding the grand slam itself, he simply recognized that he was “locked in.”
Suárez was everything the crowd hoped for during the game. Beyond his massive grand slam, the new Mariners slugger’s contribution made it clear he is focused on winning the ALCS and reaching the World Series with his new teammates, much like he did previously with the Diamondbacks.
Suárez: “I’m doing it for us”
For Suárez, the Game 5 victory was not just a personal achievement, but also one for his family and the Mariners organization. “I’m doing it for me. For my family. And for us, for our city. Seattle really deserved this,” the Venezuelan star told the media in the post-game press conference, with one of his daughters by his side.
“I’ve been dreaming for this moment since I was a kid,” Suárez added after the pivotal win over the Blue Jays. While the Mariners are not yet in the World Series, the Game 5 victory held enormous significance for him. His pair of home runs were especially noteworthy, as ESPN highlighted: “Suárez is the first player to have a 2-HR game including a grand slam in the postseason since 2017.“
