Mets real reason to reject Álex Rodríguez and Jennifer López's bid revealed

The New York Mets have been a dysfunctional organization for quite some time now, and it seemed like it was just a matter of time before they finally cave into Álex Rodríguez and Jennifer López in their attempt to buy the MLB franchise.

A-Rod, J-Lo, and their investors not only matched the Wilpon’s family asking price for the ballclub but they even raised the offer to make sure there wasn’t any kind of last-second change of heart. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t succeed.

Fred Wilpon ended up agreeing on terms with Steve Cohen to sell him the team, even though the deal may not be finalized for the time being as he’s being investigated by several sexual assault allegations.

So, if Álex Rodríguez and Jennifer López were ‘clean’ and had the money to buy the Mets, why did Wilpon kill their bid in the first place? Apparently, the real reason was A-Rod’s connection to an infamous figure around the league.

Mets Reject Álex Rodríguez And Jennifer López’s Bid Out Of Their Relationship With Jeff Luhnow

The New York Times reported that Álex Rodríguez’s close relationship with former Houston Astros’ GM Jeff Luhnow was a major red flagfor the Wilpons, as neither they nor MLB commissioner Robert Manfred want him back in the league.

Luhnow is currently serving a one-year suspension after his role in the sign-stealing scandal in the Houston Astros’ 2017 World Series run. However, reports claim that A-Rod didn’t intend to hire Luhnow as his GM once he served his suspension.

We worked so hard the past 6 months with the dream of becoming the first minority couple and the first woman owner to buy her father’s favorite Major League Baseball team with her own hard earned money. We still haven’t given up!! #NYForever,” J-Lo tweeted before they released a statement confirming they would no longer push for the Mets’ ownership.

Apparently, the Wilpon’s didn’t like the idea of selling the team to controversial billionaire Steve Cohen either but it seems like the accusations against him weren’t as much as a deal-breaker as A-Rod’s relationship to a former GM.
