Juan Soto is set to kick off the 2025 MLB season still playing in New York City, but this time wearing the Mets uniform instead of the Yankees’, the team he recently left after reaching the World Series last year.
Recently, Soto had the chance to reconnect with some of his former Yankees teammates. Reflecting on the reunion, he said,“It was great, it was a great feeling. We have a lot of memories from last year.” While Soto mentioned speaking with some players, the specifics of each interaction remain unclear.
A few months ago, Soto noted that it had been a while since he’d spoken with his teammates. Even Aaron Judge acknowledged that they hadn’t been in touch. Addressing that, the Dominican star shared, “I’ve been in touch with some of the guys over there,” emphasizing that, despite no longer being teammates, they still stay connected.
For Soto, reuniting with his former Yankees teammates brought back fond memories of their successful season together. “What we did was special,” he said, adding that his bond with them transcends the game of baseball. “So I think they go over just being a teammate. We feel like brothers right now.”
Soto is aware that Yankees fans might not be so welcoming
Responding to a question from Max Goodman during a press conference about how he expects fans to react, Soto said, “You know Yankees fans, they can surprise you with anything. So I’m expecting the worst,” hinting that he anticipates being booed in his first matchup against the Yankees.
Upcoming Mets vs. Yankees games
The first Yankees-Mets game of the 2025 season is scheduled for May 16 at Yankee Stadium as part of a three-game series. The second series between the crosstown rivals will take place on July 4 at Citi Field. These will be the only MLB regular-season meetings between the teams.
