Turner couldn’t stay silent after watching the Phillies fail to slow down Brewers’ offense. “That’s a really good team over there,” Turner said, speaking on how difficult it was to contain them—especially in Game 2, where the Brewers exploded for a 17–7 win, delivering a blowout loss for the home team.
Turner’s own performance during the series was modest: he recorded 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases, and drew one walk in 12 at-bats, finishing with a .250 average. He hasn’t driven in a run since May 30 and hasn’t hit a home run since May 19.
Turner delivers indirect criticism of Phillies
While praising the Brewers, Turner also made it clear the Phillies had issues of their own—specifically on offense. He emphasized that it wasn’t just about pitching struggles, but about the team’s inability to generate enough runs.
“They swung the bats great all series, they always have a good pitching staff,” Turner said. “So if you’re going to beat teams like that, you can’t give them outs, you’ve got to put up a few more runs and play a little better.”
Road trip could offer reset
The Phillies now head out for a pair of road series—first against the Blue Jays, then the Pirates. Manager Rob Thomson also confirmed that Bryce Harper could return during one of those series, which might provide the boost the team needs. A Harper return, paired with a softer stretch of the schedule, could help lift the team’s morale after a brutal homestand.
