Rob Thomson knows the Philadelphia Phillies need all the help they can get in the lineup—especially after just getting swept at home by the Milwaukee Brewers. One player who could provide that boost is Bryce Harper, who appears to be nearing a return.
According to Thomson’s most recent comments after the series finale against Milwaukee, there’s a chance Harper could be back in the lineup on June 3 if the medical staff clears him to play.
Harper has been sidelined after taking a pitch directly to the elbow. Just a few days ago, he admitted he was still sore and hadn’t even been able to swing a bat at that point.
Who are the Phillies playing next?
As Thomson explained, if Harper is ready to return on June 3, it would be for the first game of a road series against the Toronto Blue Jays. That series marks the start of June for the Phillies, who won’t return home until June 9.
Harper’s history vs. the Blue Jays
Harper’s last game against the Blue Jays came on May 7, 2024, when he went 3-for-3 with a home run. Since 2012, he’s totaled 33 hits in 101 at-bats against Toronto. His most recent game in Toronto was in 2023, when he went 3-for-4 with two home runs.

If Harper is able to return Tuesday, he could give Thomson and the Phillies a much-needed spark as they try to snap a three-game home losing streak—and avoid digging a deeper hole to start June.
