The Dallas Cowboys want to leave past NFL seasons behind and fully focus on what’s coming. Brian Schottenheimer is the new coach of this team, which hopes to have its star Micah Parsons back in the short term alongside his teammates.
One of the most talented defensive ends in the league still has an uncertain future regarding his participation with the Cowboys, although many believe the situation will be resolved in the short term. One of them is his new head coach, who stated that he expects to have Parsons available for minicamp.
According to NFL insider Todd Archer, Schottenheimer has remained in constant contact with the former Nittany Lions standout and expressed confidence in having him available for what lies ahead.
“Brian Schottenheimer said he expects Micah Parsons to be at next week’s mandatory minicamp. Schottenheimer said he has been in contact with Parsons, who has been traveling. Players can be fined for missing next week’s camp,” the insider reported via @toddarcher.
What’s next for Micah Parsons in the short term?
Much has been said in recent weeks about Micah Parsons’ contract situation with Jerry Jones’ franchise — a topic that, at times, kept Dallas Cowboys fans on edge. According to Bleacher Report, the talented defender is expected to remain alongside Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb for the upcoming season.
“The Cowboys have reportedly earmarked the financial resources for Parsons’ megadeal, and he sounds eager to be a true leader for the defense and in the locker room,
“Usually, it takes time for teams to work out massive extensions, but Parsons doesn’t sound like a strong holdout candidate, barring the Cowboys taking their historic offer off the table. If this lingers into the summer, he will likely hold in until his camp seals the deal.”
The Cowboys’ first challenges
Aiming to become one of the top contenders in the NFC East, Schottenheimer’s Cowboys will have to overcome these first five hurdles — matchups that could ultimately define what this team is capable of in the upcoming NFL season:
- @ Philadelphia Eagles, September 4th
- vs New York Giants, September 14th
- @ Chicago Bears, September 21st
- vs Green Bay Packers, September 28th
- @ New York Jets, October 5th
