The Dallas Cowboys appointed Brian Schottenheimer as head coach for the 2025 NFL season. Now, he’s unveiled an unusual plan to help Dak Prescott make a Super Bowl run this year.
Desperation has hit the Cowboys hard in recent years. The club has not found success in the past 30 years despite being one of the most iconic and historic franchises in the NFL.
Jerry Jones, the team’s owner and general manager, is putting a lot of effort into building a strong roster for the 2025 season. Now, new head coach Brian Schottenheimer has developed a unique—yet bizarre—plan to get the players hyped.
Brian Schottenheimer wants Cowboys legends to hype up the current players
When the Cowboys announced the departure of Mike McCarthy, there were many questions about who would replace him. Despite attempts to convince Deion Sanders, they ultimately chose Brian Schottenheimer as his successor.
Schottenheimer has been with the Cowboys since 2022. Most recently, he served as McCarthy’s offensive coordinator from 2023 to 2024, and Jerry Jones decided to promote him to head coach for the 2025 season.
The 51-year-old has never been a head coach before, which raises more doubts among Cowboys fans. However, he is determined to find success with Dallas—even if it requires him to implement unconventional ideas to fire up the team.
According to Schottenheimer, he wants players to embrace the Cowboys’ legacy. For that reason, he’s encouraging former Super Bowl champions to be present around the facilities to remind the roster that they are part of a winning franchise.
“I think the more those guys are around, the more we see their Super Bowl rings, which they wear very proudly, I think that’s great for our guys because that’s why we do it. We don’t hide from that,” Schottenheimer said, per ESPN.
“There’s such great tradition and history here with the Cowboys, and you talk about not just the Super Bowl trophies, but some of the great players. We wanted them to kind of see our energy and our juice, the way we like to operate. They paved the way for the guys that sit in those chairs today. I mean they’re part of our family. It’s like having an uncle or grandfather, in some cases, that you can use as a sounding board. You can use as a mentor. Are they going to be friends? Hell, I hope so. But if they’re not, there’s experiences that they can garner from the likes of Randy White, Bob Lilly, Michael Irvin, Dat Nguyen.”
