Brock Purdy will need all the help he can get from his best San Francisco 49ers weapons in the upcoming regular season, especially from the most experienced wide receivers. Among them is a five-year veteran who suffered a knee injury last year.
After playing only seven weeks of the 2024 NFL season with the 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk’s return seems imminent. At least that’s what Kyle Shanahan said about the wide receiver, who could be back for Week 6 of the regular season.
“49ers HC Kyle Shanahan says Brandon Aiyuk is on track to return around Week 6 from the ACL injury he suffered last year—which would be against the Buccaneers on October 12,” Meirov reported on X.
Why Would Aiyuk’s Return Be a Good Idea?
If Aiyuk returns, Purdy will have a veteran weapon at his disposal who, while he typically scores fewer than 10 touchdowns per season, is highly efficient in producing receiving yards. In his two seasons prior to his ACL injury, he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards each year, which puts him in a great position to contribute to the 49ers.
While Aiyuk isn’t the only weapon Purdy can use this season, the quarterback will have to wait until mid-season for his return. What is certain is that in 31 games with Purdy, Aiyuk has caught 136 passes for 2,214 yards and scored 11 touchdowns, making him a highly reliable target for the quarterback.
Who Will the 49ers Play in Week 6?
During the 2025 season, the 49ers will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. The game will be on the road at Raymond James Stadium on October 2, making it one of four away games for the team in the first six weeks of the season.
