Sometimes people seem to forget the fact that we’re only six weeks into the 2021 NFL regular season. That’s only six games Mac Jones has played for the New England Patriots since he was drafted earlier this year.

The Alabama Crimson Tide product is still adjusting to life in the National Football League and, of course, he still has a lot to learnbefore he becomes the player many people want to see now. Nevertheless, there are reasons to believe he could have a bright future in the league.

At leastthat’s whatDak Prescott thinks. The Dallas Cowboys superstar was full of praise for the 23-year-old rookie quarterback after his team came from behind to beat the Patriots on the road.

It may have not been an easy start for the Patriots as they head into Week 7 with a 2-4record, but for some momentsJones looked pretty solid behind center. Considering his age, he has performedquite well under pressure.

Last week, in fact, he drew praise from Bill Belichick and his teammates after he led his side to a great comeback win over the Houston Texans on the road. Even though Jones came up short this weekend, one of his last opponents recognized his performance.

Speaking to Peter King of NBC Sports after the Cowboys’ 29-35 victory at Gillette Stadium, Dak Prescott made sure of lifting Jones’ spirits by showering him with praise: Those two things that you just said [Kingmentioned Prescott how impressive it was that Jones, after throwing an interception, threw a 75-yard TD pass, and how hetook three or four brutal shots on the day] honestly, are the two most important things to be really good at this position,” Prescott said.

“You gotta be able to take a lick and not flinch and make the play when the hard hit’s coming. And when you have a bad play or an interception and the game changes right there, you gotta have the water-down-a-duck’s-back mentality. Let it go. It’s over. Mac’s got that. I really like what I see out of him. He’ll be a good quarterback for a long time.

People may have different views on Mac Jones, but the truth is that he’s just getting started and it’s too early to make any prediction of how his career will develop. But, in the meantime, his colleagues already seem to be great admirers of him.
