Deshaun Watson has been one of the most famous names in the NFL for the past couple of weeks. The player has made it clear that he doesn’t plan to stay with the team after a tumultuous season that ended with the Houston Texans not involving him as much as he wanted in their GM search.
They found a new GM in Nick Casario but the arrival of the executive only made things worse for him and the Texans. The quarterback removed anything related to the team from his social media and as the days go by, it’s more likely that the 25-year-old will leave the team.
Everybody has something to say about this and even a former NFL star, Brett Favre, gave his two pennies on this situation, giving a piece of advice to Watson and what he should do with his career.
Brett Favre tells Deshaun Watson to “do his job” and wait to see how the Texans handle everything
The former NFL player admitted he’s not completely sure that Watson is doing things the right way and if he was in his position, he would leave the team to handle the things while he keeps doing his job.
“You get paid a ton of money to do a certain job, and just do it, and let the chips fall where they may,” Favre told Minty Bets of Yahoo Sports. “I think we make too much money to voice an opinion, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. Again I think it’s a different day and time, and it’ll be interesting to see how the organization handles it.“
Favre comes from another time when players handled things differently or just let teams do their thing while they watched in the back. Times have changed and now stars can force a trade, as we saw in the NBA with James Harden, who curiously played for a Houston-based team.
Watson can follow Harden’s footsteps this offseason and he won’t certainly miss suitors interested in his services. A 3x Pro-Bowler, this man can make a great addition to any team in the NFL; it remains to be seen what the Texans will ask for him.
