Winning an NFL championship and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy is a privilege reserved for a select few — and the Philadelphia Eagles know exactly what it takes. Led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl champions are hungry for more. Among those eyeing back-to-back titles is star running back Saquon Barkley, who has made it clear that repeating as champs is the team’s ultimate goal.

In a recent media session, as the first signs of offseason activity begin to take shape, former Giants running back spoke about the current state of his new team — and the very real possibility of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy once again.

“It’s been great,” Barkley said on NFL Network’s The Insiders. “We’ve got guys coming in and buying in, training really hard, competing at a high level. The young guys that we drafted and the people we brought in, they’re buying into the culture right from the beginning.

“The best way I can answer that question is success is not an accident. We know the recipe. We know what it takes. We can’t skip any steps to get to where we want to get to. Last OTAs, it was the same thing, and we already know how training camp’s gonna be and we know how it’s gonna be during the season.

We know the recipe, and we just got to stick to it and a little bit of luck when that comes in with staying healthy. We do that, with the talent that we have and the coaches that we have, we’ll be in a good position.”

A season crowned by the Super Bowl

Though several months have passed since the Eagles‘ triumphant night in New Orleans last February, Saquon Barkley still holds vivid memories of the grueling — yet deeply rewarding — journey that ended with a Super Bowl title.

“It was a hell of a year. It was a year that you dream about,” the RB said. “It was a year that you train for. The beauty of it is you have an opportunity to do it again. That’s what the mindset kind of shifts to is learn from it, and even though you had a great year, there’s so many plays and so many things I can continue to improve on. You’ve got to be obsessed with the little details and locking into taking your game to another level.

“When it gets to this point, it might only move the needle a little bit, but any time you can move the needle, it’s going to help you. That’s what the mindset is, not only for myself but for our team, is, yes, we did it, we reached the top of Mount Everest, but now we all got to go back down and work our way back up.”

Opening stretch for the Eagles

If Barkley’s desire to chase another Super Bowl title is any indication, the entire team will need to bring their best from day one. The opening stretch of the upcoming season will be crucial for the Eagles as they look to start their title defense on the right foot.
