Three preseason games, three standout performances for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. However, it seems like the New York Giants have made their mind up and it’s veteran Russell Wilson the one named as a starter. However, head coach Brian Daboll was clear on Dart’s situation.
Daboll spoke to the press and he spoke wonders of Dart. “He knows he’s got a lot of things to work on, but he’s made progress every day and I’m glad we drafted him. I’m glad he’s our guy,” Daboll said.
Wilson was outplayed by Dart during preseason. Of course, Dart had more playing time than Wilson, but he also played with backup units most of the time. Dart suffered a concussion scare but ended up being cleared. Daboll clearly wants him for the future.
What does this mean for Russell Wilson?
While Wilson will start for the G-Men in Week 1, there is nothing guaranteed for him. He is on a one-year contract, meaning, if everything goes well, he might just earn himself a contract on another team.
However, he must ball. If the Giants are not having a great season, even if it’s not Wilson’s fault, they might opt to give Dart his first reps in the NFL. Hence, Wilson is under a lot of pressure to deliver not only for the team, but for his career.
Speaking of… The Giants schedule looks tough
The Giants will have to face the AFC West this season and that’s not good. That division is stacked and you have two big games against them in the first month. The other two games? Divisional away games. The NFL was not kind to New York this season:
- Week 1: at Washington
- Week 2: at Dallas
- Week 3: vs. Chiefs
- Week 4: vs. Chargers
