Brian Daboll makes something clear about Russell Wilson and Giants QB job after Jaxson Dart’s massive game vs Jets

After both Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart played against the New York Jets and had very different results, the New York Giants head coach, Brian Daboll, was forced to talk about the issue.

The New York Giants played versus the New York Jets during their second preseason game. Russell Wilson started the game and from then on, it was Jaxson Dart‘s show. After mixed results with the quarterbacks, head coach Brian Daboll made something clear about who will be QB1 for the G-Men.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Daboll’s stance is clear. “Russ is our starter.” Wilson is a proven veteran and Dart is a rookie. However, both have played in the preseason and Dart has looked better. To be fair as well, Wilson has played way less snaps, making it harder to gain some rhythm.

Dart has impressed while Wilson hasn’t. Not that Wilson has played extremely bad, but having a rookie that looks so good will immediately create a buzz. Wilson barely played against the Jets, completing 4/7 passes for 108 yards, which is quite impressive. However, he did throw an awful interception.

How did Dart do vs. Jets?

After Wilson’s brief appearance, it was Dart’s turn. Dart had an incredible outing completing 14/16 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown. Dart also displayed great poise and decision making. This was also something he showed in his first game.

Against the Bills, Dart completed 12/19 passes for 154 yards and another touchdown pass. The Ole Miss alumn made a name for himself in the SEC by leading the conference with a 69.3% completion and 4,279 yards. He is also known to take care of the football, having six or less interceptions in three of his four collegiate seasons.

Why is Daboll not considering Dart to start?

There are a couple of key reasons why Brian Daboll is married to the idea of Russell Wilson starting for the team. First and foremost, Russell Wilson is a proven Super Bowl champion who is fresh off a Pro Bowl selection.

Secondly, Daboll’s job might be in jeopardy, so he might want to go with a proven commodity rather than to give a rookie the job. While Dart has looked good, he’s facing backups in preseason. Daboll might want to save his job, and keep Dart under the guidance of a veteran to then take his spot.
