With the goal of bouncing back from last year’s disappointing campaign, the Jacksonville Jaguars are slowly beginning to plan their roster for the 2025 NFL season. The latest news reveals the franchise decision to release a teammate from Trevor Lawrence.
The player in question is veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk, who will not be under the leadership of Liam Coen for the upcoming season. The news was confirmed by NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Jaguars plan to release veteran WR Christian Kirk, per source,” the reporter stated via @AdamSchefter.
With this move, the team loses experience on its offense but creates space to potentially add more talent and bring in a new weapon for Lawrence. After Doug Pederson’s departure from the franchise, they are looking to make a strong turn and aim for an excellent campaign in the upcoming season.
Chris Kirk joined the franchise in 2022 after his stint with the Arizona Cardinals. The wide receiver began his NFL journey when he was selected in the 2018 Draft in the second round, with the 47th overall pick.
The roster build according to Gladstone
James Gladstone joined the Jaguars as the new General Manager, and his vision for the franchise’s rebuild brings a sense of change and optimism for what lies ahead. In a recent conversation with the press, the young GM made it clear his approach to shaping the new roster.
“We’re going to elevate the floor of the roster immediately,” Gladstone said per the team. “We look forward to injecting this ecosystem with some intangible elements that Liam and I both covet.
“That’s rooted in things like mental and physical toughness, just elevating the floor of the roster and at the same time leaning into the guys that we have and knowing that we can put them in some good spots to really showcase their capacity and their attributes,” he stated.
