The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of many NFL franchises looking to redefine their direction, starting with a complete overhaul of both their roster and coaching staff. Liam Coen was chosen to succeed Doug Pederson, and his departure from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came as a surprise to some. Todd Bowles, his former HC with the Bucs, shared a significant opinion on the matter.
Amid the ongoing NFL Scouting Combine, where many league figures are evaluating and taking notes on top prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft, Bowles spoke with PFT after his press conference and made headlines when asked about Coen’s move to the Jaguars.
“Whether it happened differently or happened the same, I’m still looking for a new offensive coordinator,” Bowles stated. “For those of us who want to say we did things the right way for our whole lives, you can’t throw stones at a glass house if everybody else lives in the glass house. He did what was right for him at the time. Obviously, a lot of people in Tampa don’t agree, but that wasn’t even a factor — the point is, we had to find a new offensive coordinator.”
It’s clear that Coen’s departure to Jacksonville caught many by surprise, while others remain frustrated by the move. It’s often said that opportunities for a major change in this sport don’t come around often, and that’s why the former Bucs OC seized this chance to become a head coach for the first time with a new franchise.

The main goal is clear: to turn around the poor on-field performance and, if possible, improve the negative record that Doug Pederson’s team posted last season.

Where should the Jaguars focus on strengthening their roster?
It’s clear the Jaguars are planning a massive overhaul, which began weeks ago with the hiring of a new head coach and general manager. From here on, Liam Coen and his staff will have some crucial decisions to make in order to build a competitive roster.
Logically, one of the most important considerations is how to best surround Trevor Lawrence. While injuries were a constant last season, the Jaguars need an experienced and impactful player on offense to help guide the young talents they already have.
The Draft is one of the main avenues for acquiring talent, and according to projections made by Jacob Infante of Pro Football Network, Coen’s team could potentially snatch TCU Horned Frogs star Savion Williams in the third round.
