Andy Reid will have his key leaders back for the 2025 NFL season, with both Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce hoping to bounce back from a tough Super Bowl LIX loss with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fortunately, the team is receiving positive news in the offseason. After dealing with multiple injuries last year, Reid and the Chiefs are recovering players who could help Mahomes and Kelce take the offense to another level.
Recently, wide receiver Rashee Rice delivered great news for Kansas City with an encouraging update on his recovery, revealing that he’s been cleared to start working on his route running.
“They just cleared the kid for the route tree!” Rice wrote in an Instagram story on Monday. “Thank you to the man up above!”
Reid confident about Rice’s recovery
Rice, who turns 25 on April 22, tore his LCL in Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season, when Mahomes accidentally tackled him after throwing an interception against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The injury required surgery, which finished any hope of returning before Super Bowl LIX. Rice has made significant progress though. In fact, Reid believes that the wideout will be ready for the start of training camp.
“He’s on track to be ready,” Reid said about Rice during a conversation with the Kansas City Star at the NFL annual meetings in Palm Beach, Forida. “We’ll see. He’s working his tail off right now, I know.”
How Rice’s return impacts Mahomes and Kelce
Rice’s return could be a huge boost to the Chiefs’ offense, as his presence could directly benefit both Mahomes and Kelce. Not only would he provide the quarterback with another reliable target for the passing game, but he could also allow Kelce to have more open spaces.

Last year, Kelce constantly got double-teamed and it took a toll on his production. With a healthy WR room led by Rice, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, and Xavier Worthy, the veteran tight end may find more opportunities to make plays. And of course, Mahomes will have a number of options to pass the ball.
