Ben Roethlisberger was present at the latest joint practice between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Because of this, in the most recent episode of his podcast Footballin, the team legend thrilled fans with his analysis of what Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf could achieve together in the 2025 season.
“He has not had a quarterback even close to the caliber of Aaron Rodgers. He’s going to play with a Hall of Famer. He’s going to play with a billion time MVP. Those two could go crazy.”
The Steelers haven’t won the Super Bowl in over 16 years, and the plan to get back there is to surround Rodgers with offensive weapons like Metcalf, Jonnu Smith, Pat Freiermuth, and Darnell Washington. All of this comes alongside a running game that promises to be powerful with Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson.
Big Ben Sees Something Special in Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf
Ben Roethlisberger says that during that joint practice with the Bucs, he saw very promising things about the connection between Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf. Although he believes it will take a few weeks to fully develop, the potential could be enormous.
“I’m watching them in practice and it wasn’t all perfect. They’re still working through things, and it may take a little while. It may take a couple of weeks to get going because they’re probably not going to play in the preseason. So, it’s going to take a few weeks potentially. I mean, you’re going to see some flashes. You’re going to see some great things. So, let me tell you this. When they get going, it’s going to be something special.”
The X-factor to Help Aaron Rodgers
However, Big Ben mentioned that none of this will be possible if the offensive line doesn’t give Aaron Rodgers enough time in the pocket. The timing with his wide receivers and tight ends is there, but the success or failure of the Steelers’ offense will depend on quarterback protection.
“Can Aaron have enough time to throw the ball? That’s not a knock on the offensive line. That’s just a question I’m going to ask because if he can have the time to throw the ball, you’re going to see some crazy stuff happen. There are some weapons out there. You’re only going to be as good as your offensive line is. If they can give Aaron time, watch out.”
