The Buffalo Bills are a Super Bowl contender team. However, in their efforts to become a more well-rounded NFL team, they reinforced what many consider to be the weak unit of the roster: the wide receiver room. Still, they don’t have a bonafide superstar, but one of the new faces is poised for a big season as a Josh Allen weapon.
After spending his first four NFL years on the Los Angeles Chargers, Joshua Palmer decided to change his path and go to the Bills. Joe Boscaglia, from the Athletic, reported that Palmer has not only impressed the coaching staff, but he has been a “staple on offense” and is in the mix to lead the WR corp in snaps.
Josh Allen also sang his praises saying Palmer has a huge catch radius. This is putting Palmer in a very good spot as a player who can produce in big manner for the team.
This is Palmer’s golden opportunity
Palmer is 25 years old so he is entering his prime. He could never really breakout with the Chargers but he enters a really prominent team in the NFL without a certified first option on the roster. So he has now the opportunity to become an established first option for perennial MVP candidate Josh Allen.
During his Chargers stint, he had a total of 2,287 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also brings deep-threat ability. Last season, he averaged 12.4 yards before catch per reception, meaning his routes are usually medium-to-long length.
The Bills receiving room is very versatile
Khalil Shakir was the Bills best receiver last season with 821 yards. He also scored 4 touchdowns. Lining up in the slot, Shakir became Allen’s most trusted option. He caught 76% of the passes thrown his way but only had one drop, so he was a very safe target.
Then, there is Keon Coleman. Coming into the league as good prospect, Coleman’s rookie year was not great, but he still had very good moments. The former Seminole had issues dropping passes (4) and communicating with Allen at times.
However, he’s stated he is ready to make a major leap in his sophomore season in the NFL. He still ended up with 556 yards and 4 touchdowns in 13 games played. Coleman is explosive and very tall with a huge vertical, so he brings a more physical skillset than Shakir. Palmer is like a mix of both, opening a whole lot of opportunities for the offense.
