Joey Bosa wasn’t the only key factor in the Los Angeles Chargers’ deep run in the 2024 season. Another crucial teammate, a member of the secondary, played a pivotal role in key games to help the team—one that has now rewarded him with an extension to keep him motivated for the upcoming season.
According to Jordan Schultz, Chargers cornerback Elijah Molden has signed a three-year extension with the team worth $18.25 million, including $13.5 million in guaranteed money—a significant upgrade for him.
Last season, he appeared in 15 games, starting 12—the highest number of starts in his career since turning pro in 2021. Molden joined the Chargers in 2024 and is four years younger than Joey Bosa, who has played for the franchise since 2017.
It’s clear that the Chargers’ goal is to maintain or improve their defense’s performance from 2024. That same group helped them reach the NFL playoffs, and despite being eliminated in the Wild Card round once again, it was an overall good season with a new head coach.
Molden’s NFL Experience is Key
One of the reasons Molden could be a promising future cornerback is his background with the Titans, a team known for its tough secondary. They’ve produced quality players who have performed well and secured good contracts with other franchises.
Despite having only four years in the league, his first season with a new team has shown that he is in good form for the future. In 2024, Molden recorded a total of 75 combined tackles, his highest number, surpassing his previous record of 73 with Tennessee.
Support for Other Chargers Cornerbacks
With Molden, the Chargers now have four cornerbacks who have been putting up good numbers in recent years. Apart from Molden, who had the best year among them in combined tackles, the second on the list is Tarheeb Still with 62 tackles, followed by Kristian Fulton with 51, and Cam Hart with only 37 tackles.
