The Washington Commanders came incredibly close to playing in Super Bowl 2025. To build on their success and reach even greater heights, the NFC East club has made a blockbuster trade to improve Jayden Daniels‘ offense for the upcoming season.

The Commanders were one of the biggest dark horses of the 2024 NFL season. The team brought in a rookie quarterback and a new head coach, a combination that doesn’t always deliver immediate results.

However, Dan Quinn proved to be an excellent head coach, and Jayden Daniels’ talent has impressed many. Now, the Commanders’ front office is focused on supporting their young quarterback by giving him an elite wide receiver for the upcoming campaign.

Commanders acquire a new wide receiver for Jayden Daniels

The 2024 season was a breakout year for the Commanders. The NFC East club underwent significant changes, including a major ownership shift and a revamped roster.

Dan Quinn joined the team as their new head coach, and he played a key role in selecting Jayden Daniels with the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Daniels had an outstanding rookie season, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. But the Commanders are aiming for even more success in 2025, so they’ve bolstered their offense with a new weapon for their young quarterback.

On Saturday, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Washington Commanders had made a blockbuster trade with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire Deebo Samuel. San Francisco decided to part ways with Samuel after a disappointing season for the wide receiver.

Deebo Samuel Sr. #1 of the San Francisco 49ers looks on before the game against the Detroit Lions at Levi’s Stadium on December 30, 2024 in Santa Clara, California.

In exchange, the Commanders sent a 5th-round pick to the 49ers. Now, Jayden Daniels will have a dynamic wide receiver duo, with Samuel joining forces with standout Terry McLaurin.

Why did the 49ers Move on from Deebo Samuel?

A few years ago, Deebo Samuel was regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL. Unfortunately, his recent seasons have been less impressive, which led San Francisco to move on from him this offseason.

Now, a big challenge awaits Samuel in Washington. He has struggled with injuries in recent years, but if he can stay healthy, he could return to his elite form and help Jayden Daniels and the Commanders achieve success in 2025.
