The Atlanta Falcons continue their training camp and have finalized the signing of a former Indianapolis Colts defender while facing growing controversy surrounding the future of veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Cousins has gone from being the offensive cornerstone to a potential backup, or even a trade candidate, becoming the center of debate due to his hefty contract. His starting role has been in doubt ever since the franchise opted to name Michael Penix Jr. as QB1 in the Falcons.
While questions remain on offense following a 10–17 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions, the Falcons took action by securing the signing of a free agent to bolster their defense after a stint with the Colts.
Who is the Falcons’ new player?
The Atlanta franchise added depth to its secondary by signing Ronnie Harrison Jr., a former Indianapolis Colts safety who had become a free agent. Atlanta aims to strengthen its defensive core in pursuit of stability and experience in the deep field.
Harrison Jr. joins the Falcons after appearing in 10 games with the Colts last season, recording two tackles and a forced fumble. In previous years, he had already proven to be a valuable piece in key situations, contributing two interceptions and 20 total tackles in 2023.
Falcons bolster the defense
The Falcons have been making moves to strengthen a defense still in transition. Since the addition of veteran pass rusher Leonard Floyd on a one-year, $10 million deal, the expectation has been to keep adding experience along the defensive line.
