All 32 NFL teams are currently shaping their rosters for the 2025 season. As of now, clubs are allowed to carry a 90-man roster, but they will need to trim it down to 53 players by the start of the campaign.

In recent days, the Cowboys have been actively working to strengthen their squad. They recently acquired George Pickens from the Steelers, further bolstering Dak Prescott’s offensive arsenal.

The Cowboys know that their 2025 NFL season must be a strong one. After falling short of expectations last year and missing the playoffs despite a talented roster, the team is aiming for a fresh start.

On Wednesday, Dallas finalized a trade with the Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens. While his addition improves the receiving corps, it also forced the Cowboys to make a corresponding roster move.

Just one day later, the team waived wide receiver Seth Williams. Williams, who played for the Broncos in 2021, signed a one-year deal with Dallas in January but was unable to make a lasting impression on the coaching staff heading into the new season.

Williams had spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons on the Jaguars’ practice squad before joining the Cowboys. Now, he’ll be looking for another opportunity after being released from Dallas’ 90-man roster.

Pickens’ trade wasn’t a shock to many fans. The Steelers were reportedly open to moving him ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, but after not receiving a suitable offer, they waited until afterward to complete the deal.

The wide receiver is currently in the final year of his rookie contract. However, he has not asked the Cowboys for an extension yet, opting instead to prove his value on the field during the upcoming season.
