Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers were apparently very close to finalizing a trade for a wide receiver in an effort to help Aaron Rodgers. According to a report from Chris Halicke, general manager Omar Khan made strong offers for Jakobi Meyers and Rashid Shaheed.

“Omar Khan offered the Saints the same package as the Seahawks for wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, a fourth- and fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Shaheed preferred to go to Seattle to reunite with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, whom he played under last season in New Orleans. So, the Saints accepted the package that honored their player’s wishes. The Steelers also were very much involved in the Jakobi Meyers sweepstakes. Though the exact offer isn’t known, what I do know is Khan made a similar offer to what the Jaguars paid the Raiders, a fourth- and sixth-round pick in 2026.”

Many Steelers fans felt disappointed because Khan had promised to go all-in trying to win the Super Bowl with Rodgers. However, it seems he did make the necessary push, though he set his limit at third-round picks, aiming to preserve draft capital for 2026.

Who did the Steelers sign as a wide receiver?

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling as a wide receiver after they were unable to acquire Jakobi Meyers or Rashid Shaheed. However, the move was only for their practice squad.

Was Kyler Murray traded?

Kyler Murray was not traded by the Arizona Cardinals, but rumors about his future have surfaced after Jonathan Gannon confirmed that his starting quarterback for the near future is Jacoby Brissett.

That could put the Steelers in play for a trade next season in case Aaron Rodgers retires. This would be one reason to explain why Khan decided to cap the draft capital he was willing to risk on a wide receiver.
