A few days ago, the Los Angeles Rams announced the shocking departure of Cooper Kupp, prompting his immediate response. Now, HC Sean McVay has taken a slight jab at the WR for throwing the club under the bus.

In a surprising turn of events, the Rams parted ways with Cooper Kupp this offseason after failing to trade him. The announcement shocked many, but none more than the wide receiver himself.

Following his exit, Kupp quickly found a landing spot with the Seahawks. However, he didn’t hesitate to criticize his former club, revealing that he didn’t expect such an abrupt departure this offseason.

Sean McVay responds to Cooper Kupp’s controversial remarks about the Rams

A few years ago, Cooper Kupp was the best offensive player the Rams had. His talent helped the NFC West club win Super Bowl LVI against the Bengals after an outstanding 2021 season.

Unfortunately, the wide receiver’s impact declined in the following years due to multiple injuries. This led the Rams to search for a replacement, and they found one in the best way possible.

With Puka Nacua emerging as a rising star and a strong successor to Kupp, rumors suggested that the Rams were ready to move on from their veteran receiver. Those rumors became reality when the team decided to part ways with him earlier this year.

According to Kupp, he was never informed about a potential release. However, Sean McVay, his former head coach, has denied those claims, taking a subtle jab at Kupp for criticizing the franchise after his exit.

“We thought Davante Adams would be a possibility,” McVay said on who they thought would replace Kupp, via TheAthletic.com. “We don’t know, you know, he’s going to have other interests. There was a possibility we were gonna re-sign Tutu Atwell, but we didn’t know at the time. I think the most important thing was when we had made the decision that we were gonna seek a trade or at least grant him his release, that was very quickly after the season, which I thought he deserved that clarity in regard to the direction we were going. Now, exactly why all those things occurred, there had to be a little bit of time to be able to provide the appropriate context. That wasn’t applicable in the moment.”

How much will Cooper Kupp earn with the Seahawks?

It didn’t take long for Cooper Kupp to find a new team this offseason. Several clubs showed interest in him, but the Seahawks’ offer was the most appealing.

Kupp signed a three-year, $45 million contract with Seattle. He will become a free agent after the 2027 season when he will be 34 years old.
