The Houston Texans are determined to do whatever it takes to help CJ Stroud make it to the postseason. Recently, news broke about the signing of a new offensive player, a wide receiver who has spent limited time with the Ravens alongside Lamar Jackson.
According to various sources, the Texans’ latest addition to boost their offense is Diontae Johnson, who joins the team with the hope of filling the void left by Tank Dell, who unfortunately will be sidelined due to a knee injury.
Johnson didn’t spend much time with the Ravens, only playing 5 games, starting in just one, and managing only 6 yards with no touchdowns. However, during the same 2024 season, he was with the Panthers, where he started 7 games and totaled 30 receptions, 3 touchdowns, and 357 yards.
The Texans are in urgent need of another wide receiver. They’re just a few results away from securing a playoff spot, but with their offense ranked 13th out of 32 in the league, things could become difficult for them. In their most recent game, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 19-27, struggling to break past 20 points.
Who are the healthy wide receivers for the Texans?
The starters would be Nico Collins, who has 6 touchdowns and 909 yards on 60 receptions so far this season. In his most recent game, he caught 7 out of 10 passes, though he didn’t score any touchdowns. The second option is John Metchie, with 17 receptions and 1 touchdown this season. The third option is Robert Woods, with 143 yards and 16 receptions but no touchdowns.
Diontae Johnson would be available as a backup behind Collins, along with other backups like Xavier Hutchinson and Jared Wayne. Of the three, Johnson has had the best 2024 season, thanks to his performance with the Carolina Panthers before joining the Ravens.
