Tom Brady has always been a key figure for Shedeur Sanders. The young quarterback sees the legend as an idol and a sort of mentor. Now, after the rookie’s dramatic fall in the 2025 Draft, Brady confirmed on the IMPAULSIVE podcast that he sent Sanders a message to motivate him before the start of his NFL career.
“I actually texted Shedeur because I know him very well and I said: ‘Dude, like whatever happens, wherever you go, that’s your first day. Day 2 matters more than the draft.’ I was 199. So, who can speak on it better than me? Like what that really means. Use it as motivation, you’re going to get your chances, go take advantage of it.”
For many weeks, several reports suggested that teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers might have been interested in selecting Shedeur in the first round. However, the Colorado star fell all the way to the fifth round, where he was eventually picked by the Browns.
What did Tom Brady say about Shedeur Sanders?
Tom Brady told Shedeur Sanders that it’s not about which round you’re drafted in, but the impact you make over many years in the NFL. It’s important to remember that Brady was the 199th pick in the 2000 Draft and went on to become the greatest player in history.
“Wherever you end up going, it’s about your performance. What do you do when you get there? Because you’re going to get there. I was around some of the best players who were undrafted free agents. Rodney Harrison wasn’t a high pick. Julian Edelman wasn’t a high pick. Wes Welker wasn’t a high pick. Danny Amendola. All those guys were phenomenal players.”
