The Minnesota Vikings have had to answer several times whether J.J. McCarthy is their starting quarterback amid the rumors surrounding Aaron Rodgers. During an interview with Rich Eisen, head coach Kevin O’Connell was blunt and visibly tired of being asked the same question.
“I know everybody is wildly concerned about these reps on air. Let me put you at peace, Rich. When he is taking snaps (McCarthy), he is taking plenty of snaps from Ryan Kelly, who happens to be a ten-year starting offensive center in this league. Take that for what it’s worth.”
For O’Connell, there’s no doubt: McCarthy is the missing piece for the Vikings to finally win the Super Bowl with a spectacular offense featuring names like Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Aaron Jones.
Who will be Vikings starting quarterback?
J.J. McCarthy will be the starting quarterback for the Vikings despite Aaron Rodgers not having signed with any team. Amid rumors that the veteran might be waiting on Minnesota, Kevin O’Connell is fully focused on developing the Michigan prospect.
“We’re gonna have him ready to go by owning playing quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. That’s footwork, that’s rhythm, that’s timing, running the huddle, running the show, cadence. He is owning it.”
