The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tough defeat in the last Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid almost made history by winning an unprecedented NFL three-peat. They got beat bad, but now the Chiefs are looking to bounce back. A major update regarding one of their best weapons came around.
Rashee Rice, who was establishing himself as Mahomes’ best Wide Receiver, is back. Rice played only four games last season in what was his sophomore year. Unfortunately, Rice suffered a season-ending lateral colateral ligament (LCL) tear. However, the latest updates is that Rice is practicing without any setbacks.
These are good signs given the fact that Rice missed the week of OTAs due to an illness as well. Chiefs #4 not only practiced with no restrictions, but he didn’t use a brace or any extra protection.
Rashee Rice is a much-needed weapon for the Chiefs
Kansas City’s OC, Matt Nagy, told reporters that “he’s come back strong. He’s been working hard to get to this point.” More than Rice himself, the Chiefs offense had its ups and downs last year. Missing the sophomore was a big part of it.
Rice proved to be an assett in his rookie year, posting 938 yards and 7 TDs. In the four weeks he played last season, he already had 288 yards and 2 TDs. Without him, the Chiefs tried lots of other stuff. They signed DeAndre Hopkins and had a late add with Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who was also injured but recovered for the last stretch.
Is Rashee Rice the best weapon Mahomes has?
We know TE Travis Kelce is still on the roster. However, Kelce is starting to slow down. His last two seasons were short of 1,000 yards and at 35 years old, he’s naturally starting to decline a bit.
On the other side, Rice is entering his third year and is only 25 years old. Rice also proved to be a safe target for Mahomes, catching 62.6% of the passes where he is targeted. Of course, the first thing is to recover explosiveness and agility. When that is said and done, he knows he has Mahomes’ trust.

Last season, the Chiefs had no player get near the 1,000-yard mark. Kelce had 823, followed by Xavier Worthy with 638. Worthy is more of a long-route target or used in fancy plays by Andy Reid. Rice will fit perfectly as the volume guy for Kansas City.
