Derek Stingley Jr.’s official questionable status has prompted the Houston Texans to elevate two defensive players for the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans. One of the elevated players is Myles Bryant, who is in his second year with the Texans after joining the team from New England.

The other defensive back is D’Angelo Ross, who has been familiar with the Texans organization since 2023 and started in two games last season. The initial report was sent out by Ian Rapoport, and it’s probable that the Titans will also make some strategic roster moves to potentially exploit the situation with Stingley Jr.

Last season, Myles Bryant appeared in 11 games for the Texans but did not register a start, following a 2023 campaign where he started nine games for the Patriots. However, the personnel situation that led to his starting role in New England is not comparable to the current defensive alignment in Houston.

How Can Bryant and Ross Aid the Texans’ Defense?

Both Bryant and D’Angelo Ross are already familiar with the team’s defensive system, meaning the Texans won’t face significant integration issues when they need to deploy them. Currently, the Houston defense is allowing just 17 points per game, ranking them 5th best in the league. Despite the team’s disappointing 0-3 start, there is still plenty of time for them to rally.

Ross was activated for the loss against the Jaguars; while he did not record a single tackle, he was available in an emergency capacity. Last season, he logged a career-high 13 tackles, putting him at a good tempo heading into this year.

Another home game could provide the Texans with the opportunity they need to secure their first win. After suffering a close 19-20 loss to the Buccaneers at home, they now face the Tennessee Titans, who are equally desperate to avoid starting the season 0-3.
