Mitch Marner has been the big signing for the Vegas Golden Knights after his time with Auston Matthews and the Maple Leafs came to an end. Now, his new teammate, Jack Eichel, noted in an interview with W.G. Ramirez that he fully understands what the Canadian is going through, as he went through a similar situation when he left the Sabres.
“Having went through the situation of leaving an organization in the city and having a fresh start in Vegas, I think I can relate, to a point, to some of the things he’s going through. I think he’s obviously had his own situation, and however that ended, I’m sure he’s super excited to have a fresh start and be in a place like Vegas. I know he’ll excel. I’m looking forward to continuing to get to know him and then getting the opportunity to play with him.”
In November 2021, Buffalo traded Eichel to the Golden Knights, and two years later, Vegas shocked the NHL by winning the Stanley Cup. The arrival of Marner now seems to position them as the most serious contender to challenge the Florida Panthers.
Who was Mitch Marner traded for?
Mitch Marner was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, and in exchange, the Maple Leafs received Nicolas Roy. After the move, Marner stirred up a lot of controversy in Toronto by stating that the trade had to do with joining a team that could win the Stanley Cup.
Another point that has been highly criticized is that Marner may have had the idea of moving to Las Vegas since the Four Nations Tournament with Canada. At that event, he reportedly spoke with players like Adin Hill and Mark Stone about the lifestyle in that potential new city.
