“Paul Maurice just told Joe Rose that Dmitry Kulikov and Tomas Nosek are coming out of the non-contact jersey for today’s practice,” as reported by George Richards of NHL.com.



It may take a while before Kulikov can return to the ice and Nosek can make his debut in the 2025–26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> campaign, but the fact that both are back practicing at full capacity is definitely a good sign. 



<h2>Kulikov and Nosek may need more time</h2>



However, despite the intensity brought into the training facility by Tkachuk, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brad-marchand">Marchand</a>, and company, it doesn’t quite equal the pace and aggressiveness of an NHL game.

Even if Kulikov and Nosek don’t wear non-contact jerseys, the rest of the team knows both are coming off long-term injuries and won’t go at full speed against them. In an NHL game, opponents won’t care about that. Thus, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/paul-maurice">Paul Maurice</a> and his staff must be completely sure Kulikov and Nosek can withstand that rhythm before sending them onto the ice.

Tomas Nosek has yet to play a game in the 2025-26 campaign. The Czech forward underwent surgery on his knee during the summer. The move proves how serious Pittsburgh is about its season goals. So far in the 2025-26 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> season, Girard has appeared in 40 games, recording three goals and nine assists (12 points). As for Kulak, the 32-year-old defenseman has played 56 games this season, putting up one goal and eight assists (nine points).

“When I rank the teams and I say ‘who can do this and where would Hughes want to go?’ I would say Detroit is very high on my list,” Friedman commented on the Daily Faceoff’s Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast.

While the Red Wings have enough pieces on their <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> lineup to make an offer worth their while for the Canucks, it seems Detroit won’t look to dismantle its current squad. On that note, Friedman hinted who could be eyed by the Canucks in order to even consider trading Hughes.

Either way, it’s still too early to tell. The Canucks can still turn their season around and quiet the loud buzz around Hughes. However, with the way things have gone lately, Vancouver would almost need a miracle. Over their last 10 games, the Canucks are 2-6-2 — the worst record in the league during that span. 



Moreover, Vancouver hasn’t won consecutive games since October. Needless to say, it’s been a tough season for fans in Vancity so far, and with each loss, Hughes’ name only appears in more trade rumors around the NHL.

If he wants to make it all the way back to the NHL, he must first impress the staff in Charlotte.

However, the way the season has gone for Marchand and Florida, any player on the Checkers could be bound for a shot in Sunrise, as the Panthers seem to lose key pieces almost on a routine basis. <h2>When did Fabbri last play in the NHL? His latest numbers</h2>



Fabbri made 44 appearances for the Anaheim Ducks in the 2024-25 NHL season. Registering 8 goals, 8 assists, and 16 points, the veteran center proved he can still be valuable. However, his physical struggles have been hard to overlook and a main reason for his long absence in the league.

Now, the retired winger has shared a story from his time with Berube, offering a reminder for Matthews and the Maple Leafs.

<h2>Sets example of Florida</h2>



If there’s one team the Maple Leafs can’t stand in the Atlantic Division lately, it’s the Florida Panthers. The Leafs and Cats have met twice in the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the last three seasons, with the team from Sunrise prevailing both times. Still, as much as Matthews and company may despise the Panthers, they could learn a lesson or two from them. Maroon certainly thinks so.



“It’s the difference between the teams that have been winning. Look at [the Florida Panthers], all they do is get pucks back and wear you down,” Maroon stated. “Do they have stars on the team? Yeah, but do they have the [Nathan] MacKinnons, [Nikita] Kucherovs, or [Auston] Matthews? No, they don’t, but all those guys are buying in. That’s why they’ve had success. So [it’s about]: are you willing to buy in? Or are you just going to go out there, put your stick on the ice, and say ‘I’m all by myself’?”

Cousins has long been a player few fanbases are fond of. However, the league’s latest fine wasn’t for a dangerous play, it was for conduct that fell short of the sport’s expected sense of sportsmanship.



“Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins has been fined $2,000 as supplementary discipline under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment),” the NHL announced through an <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/nick-cousins-fined-for-diving-embellishment-by-nhl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">official statement</a>.



<h2>NHL looks to take diving off the game</h2>



There may be nothing hockey fans across the globe dislike more than players diving. For a sport that prides itself on being the toughest to play and boasting the grittiest athletes, watching others try to take advantage by embellishing and drawing calls boils the blood of fans everywhere.

In that regard, the NHL agrees there is no place for diving in the game. If players want to do that, there’s another Olympic sport they can sign up for. As a result, the league has implemented a fine system in which players cited for diving or embellishment are punished on a graduated scale.

<h2>How the fine system works</h2>



“NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties,” the NHL’s rulebook states.



For the first citation, players essentially get a mulligan—a free pass, if you will—getting off the hook with only a warning. However, after the second one, the player will see money deducted from his bank account—most precisely, $2,000. After each additional citation, an extra $1,000 is added to the total, up to the maximum fine of $5,000.



<h2>Head coaches are not off the hook</h2>



Moreover, head coaches are impacted by their players’ actions as well. Each citation issued to a player on their team counts toward the head coach’s total. “Four fines (five citations) issued to one player or a club collectively results in the head coach receiving his first fine,” the rule indicates.

Ever since leaving the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Nashville Predators, Steven Stamkos has seen a significant decrease in his production. <h2>Lend them a hand</h2>



Still, in order to complete a trade for Stamkos, the Canucks would need some assistance from the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nashville-predators" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Predators</a>—or any other franchise willing to take on dead cap space.



“Nashville would have to eat a part of [Steven Stamkos’ $8 million cap hit]. The Preds would have to eat, at least, $2 to $3 million to make it somewhat [achievable],” Rick Dhaliwal and Don Taylor commented.

Not only are the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions unbeaten through three games, but they are also keeping important contributors for the foreseeable.



On Sunday, only a day after their 6-2 home win over the Ottawa Senators, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-panthers">Panthers</a> announced a contract extension for forward Jonah Gadjovich through an official statement with comments from general manager Bill Zito.



“Jonah has become an integral part of our locker room and a strong contributor for our group on the ice,” Zito said, via the <a href="https://www.nhl.com/panthers/news/florida-panthers-agree-to-terms-with-forward-jonah-gadjovich-on-a-two-year-contract-extension-25">Panthers’ official website</a>. “He possesses a fearless attitude and unrelenting competitiveness, and we are excited for Jonah to continue with us in South Florida.”



The two-year deal, which commences in the 2026-27 NHL season and according to Elliotte Friedman is worth $905K, has been confirmed the same day Gadjovich turns 27. What a way to start celebrating his birthday, right?

<h2>Panthers recognize Gadjovich’s contribution to Stanley Cup success</h2>



Gadjovich’s extension is a reward to his contribution to the Panthers in their <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/nhl-teams-back-to-back-stanley-cup-wins">back-to-back Stanley Cup victories</a>. The Ontario native, who arrived in Sunrise as a free agent after stints with the San Jose Sharks (2021-22 to 2022-23) and Vancouver Canucks (2020-21), originally joined the organization on a one-year deal with the Charlotte Checkers, the Panthers’ AHL affiliate.

Behind Marchand and other stars, Gadjovich went on to become an instrumental member of the Panthers’ fourth line alongside AJ Greer and Tomas Nosek en route to a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/florida-panthers-stanley-cup-pursuit">second consecutive Stanley Cup win</a>, with the veteran forward contributing three points (2-1-3) in 16 games during the 2025 playoffs, including a goal in Game 7 of Round 2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.



<h2>Running things back</h2>



While the Panthers made sure to bring back the likes of Marchand, Sam Bennett, and Aaron Ekblad first, Zito is now taking care of other contracts that also made the Cats an unstoppable force in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a>.



It’s not just about maintaining the main core that led to multiple Cups, but also about keeping the depth pieces that made the Panthers a successful team overall. Gadjovich, on the fourth line, is just as important as other members of the franchise in their respective roles.

Starting the new campaign without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk due to injury posed an immediate threat to the Panthers’ three-peat aspirations, but the team somehow keeps on finding reasons for optimism.

However, the dream return for the German back into Minnesota could be put on hold.



“Nico Sturm, who practiced yesterday but has been dealing with a back injury all camp, is suddenly also on injured reserve,” as reported by The Athletic’s Michael Russo through his X account (formerly Twitter).



<h2>Awaiting</h2>



While the Wild have yet to provide an update on Sturm’s health status going forward, Russo hints it might put the team in a compromising position. If the former Florida Panthers’ forward is indeed out for considerable time, it might be time for Minnesota to hit the market.

It seems Evgeni Malkin is entering the final season of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, reports suggest he might be headed for the exit door before the season comes to an end.

<h2>What a ride</h2>



Selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 22nd overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Pacioretty spent 10 seasons as a Hab. His career in the “City of Saints” came to an end in September 2018, when he was sent to the Vegas Golden Knights in a blockbuster deal.



Vegas later traded Pacioretty to Carolina in the summer of 2022. After an injury-riddled year with the Hurricanes, in which he played just five games, Pacioretty signed as a free agent with the Washington Capitals in 2023. Following a 47-game season with the Caps, he joined Toronto on a PTO deal—and the rest is history.
