<p>There are no limits as to just how creative <strong>NHL</strong> teams can get. That is true both on and off the ice. This time around, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/los-angeles-kings"><strong>Los Angeles Kings</strong></a> defied all odds as they were involved in a move with the <strong>Buffalo Sabres</strong> after the trade deadline.</p>



<p>According to a report from <em>Mayor’s Manor</em>, the Kings and <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/buffalo-sabres">Sabres</a> made a swap of players via their AHL affiliates. <strong>This is not a trade, as it a temporarily loan</strong>. Per the report, <strong>forward Kaleb Lawrence</strong> has been loaned to the Rochester Americans. In return, the Ontario Reign are welcoming in <strong>defenseman Nikita Novikov</strong>.</p>



<p>While the two prospects change their AHL addresses, their rights remain in possession of their <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a> teams. Thus, the Kings and Sabres could engage in such a move as it’s not a trade, with <strong>Lawrence remaining in Los Angeles’ system, and Novikov in Buffalo’s.</strong></p>



<p>Both 2003-born players are eligible to play for their new clubs in the Calder Cup Playoffs, provided the Rochester Americans and Ontario Reign clinch playoff berths.</p>

<p>The Kings are currently three points out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Their approach to the trade deadline paints a clear picture of the organization’s belief in the team. <p>Cousins has long been a player few fanbases are fond of. <strong>Constantly pushing the edge of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NHL</a> rulebook</strong>, the 32-year-old veteran has made more enemies than friends around the league. However, the league’s latest fine wasn’t for a dangerous play, it was for conduct that fell short of the sport’s expected sense of sportsmanship.</p>



<p>“<em>Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins has been <strong>fined $2,000 as supplementary discipline</strong> under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment),” </em>the NHL announced through an <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/nick-cousins-fined-for-diving-embellishment-by-nhl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">official statement</a>.</p>



<h2>NHL looks to take diving off the game</h2>



<p>There may be nothing hockey fans across the globe dislike more than players diving. For a <strong>sport that prides itself on being the toughest to play</strong> and boasting the grittiest athletes, watching others try to take advantage by embellishing and drawing calls boils the blood of fans everywhere. </p>

<h2>How the fine system works</h2>



<p><em>“NHL Rule 64 is designed to bring attention to and <strong>more seriously penalize players</strong> (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties,” </em>the NHL’s rulebook states.</p>



<p><strong>For the first citation, players essentially get a mulligan</strong>—a free pass, if you will—getting off the hook with only a warning. However, after the second one, the player will see money deducted from his bank account—most precisely, $2,000. After each additional citation, <strong>an extra $1,000 is added to the total</strong>, up to the maximum fine of $5,000.</p>



<h2>Head coaches are not off the hook</h2>



<p>Moreover, head coaches are impacted by their players’ actions as well. Each citation issued to a player on their team counts toward the head coach’s total. <em>“Four fines (five citations) issued to one player or a club collectively <strong>results in the head coach receiving his first fine</strong>,”</em> the rule indicates.</p>

<p>Ever since leaving the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Nashville Predators, <strong>Steven Stamkos</strong> has seen a significant decrease in his production. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and in Music City the tunes are no better than they were in the Big Guava. For the former first overall pick in 2008, a fresh start might make all the difference in the world. </p>

<p>It’s risky business. The stakes are high for Pettersson and the Canucks in the 2025-26 NHL season. As the saying goes, scared money makes no money. However, committing to a regressing veteran—whose contract runs through the 2027-28 campaign—<strong>could chain Vancouver to a top-dollar problem</strong>. </p>



<p>On the flip side, perhaps Stamkos’ dip in production is merely a <strong>byproduct of the turmoil in Smashville.</strong> Who knows what Vancouver might be missing out on by judging a book by its cover.</p>

Not only are the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions unbeaten through three games, but they are also <strong>keeping important contributors for the foreseeable</strong>.</p>



<p>On Sunday, only a day after their 6-2 home win over the Ottawa Senators, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/florida-panthers">Panthers</a> announced a <strong>contract extension for forward Jonah Gadjovich</strong> through an official statement with comments from general manager Bill Zito.</p>



<p>“<em><strong>Jonah has become an integral part of our locker room and a strong contributor for our group on the ice</strong>,</em>” Zito said, via the <a href="https://www.nhl.com/panthers/news/florida-panthers-agree-to-terms-with-forward-jonah-gadjovich-on-a-two-year-contract-extension-25">Panthers’ official website</a>. “<em>He possesses a fearless attitude and unrelenting competitiveness, and we are excited for Jonah to continue with us in South Florida</em>.”</p>



<p><strong>The two-year deal</strong>, which commences in the 2026-27 NHL season and according to Elliotte Friedman is worth $905K, has been confirmed the same day Gadjovich turns 27. What a way to start celebrating his birthday, right?</p>

<h2>Panthers recognize Gadjovich’s contribution to Stanley Cup success</h2>

<p>Training camp and preseason saw him make his way up to the Panthers on a modest, one-year contract worth $810,000 before landing a two-year extension in March 2024. Even though he didn’t suit up in the playoffs, his 39 regular season appearances were deemed <strong>important enough</strong> for the Cats to request Gadjovich’s name be engraved on the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/stanley-cup">Stanley Cup</a> that year.</p>



<p>Behind Marchand and other stars, Gadjovich went on to become an instrumental member of the Panthers’ fourth line <strong>alongside AJ Greer and Tomas Nosek</strong> en route to a <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl/florida-panthers-stanley-cup-pursuit">second consecutive Stanley Cup win</a>, with the veteran forward contributing three points (2-1-3) in 16 games during the 2025 playoffs, including a goal in Game 7 of Round 2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.</p>



<h2>Running things back</h2>



<p>While the Panthers made sure to bring back the likes of Marchand, Sam Bennett, and Aaron Ekblad first, Zito is now taking care of <strong>other contracts that also made the Cats an unstoppable force</strong> in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nhl">NHL</a>.</p>



<p>It’s not just about maintaining the main core that led to multiple Cups, but also about keeping the depth pieces that made the Panthers a successful team overall. Gadjovich, on the fourth line, is <strong>just as important as other members</strong> of the franchise in their respective roles.</p>



<h2>Overcoming obstacles</h2>



<p>Starting the new campaign <strong>without Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk</strong> due to injury posed an immediate threat to the Panthers’ three-peat aspirations, but the team <strong>somehow keeps on finding reasons for optimism</strong>.</p>

<p>While the Wild have yet to provide an update on Sturm’s health status going forward, Russo hints it <strong>might put the team in a compromising position</strong>. If the former Florida Panthers’ forward is indeed out for considerable time, it might be time for Minnesota to hit the market.</p>
