One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer was the transfer of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United. Sancho was linked with many of the top clubs in England, but eventually move to United where he signed a 5-year contract.
Since the transfer and at the start of the Premier League season Sancho has failed to break the Manchester United starting lineup. Instead coming off the bench and playing in 15 and 30 minutes respectively. Sancho has only played 2 games as a starter and has 0 goals and 0 assists in his 5 games with the club.
While by no means should Manchester United and Jadon Sancho hit the panic button, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke stated it “hurt his soul” to see the promising young English winger on the bench at Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho failing to make impact at Manchester United
Sancho faces tough competition in the Manchester United lineup, and even though they play different positions, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo took a lot of sparkle from his signing. While that should eventually help Sancho adapt at ManU at first Sancho was the indicated person to bring new life to the Red Devils.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær at the moment looks keen to use Pogba on the left, and a player of that caliber and team leader will certainly keep Sancho relegated to the bench at least for now. Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke weighed in on his former star’s situation and stated to Sport1, “When you see him playing you get tears in your eyes. It hurts my soul that he is given so little consideration. I think his problem is that he’s not set in the English national team.”
Sancho is not the first Dortmund big name signing to struggle to life in England, Sancho’s former teammate and “rival” for playing time American Christian Pulisic also struggled to get into games and with injuries but found a way to be effective for Chelsea since then and under two different managers.
For Sancho next up is a Champions League clash with Villarreal, a rematch of last year’s Europa League Final. The tricky winger will look to break the drought in an all-important European cup tie.
