After failing to impress in his first year in Barcelona, Miralem Pjanic seemed to be on the verge of leaving the Camp Nou anytime this summer. The Cules couldn’t offload him easily, but they finally did itafter the transfer deadline day.

While the transfer market was over for the top five European leagues, other competitions in the Old Continent are still allowed to make negotiations. Therefore, Barca found in Turkish giants Besiktas a landing spot for Pjanic.

The Bosnian wasn’t among Ronald Koeman‘s plans and his departureseemed just a matter of time. The biggest problem for the Catalans was his expensive salary, which according to Spanish outlet Sportit was recently reducedby €4 million, but they’ll still pay himwhile he is in Turkey.

Barcelona to keep on paying the salary of on-loan Pjanic

It’s no secret that Barcelona are facing a delicate financial situation that prevented them from renewingLionel Messi‘s deal. One of Joan Laporta‘s main concerns seems to be solving this issue and that’s why the club has been looking to get rid of many expensive contracts.

Even Antoine Griezmann has returned to Atletico Madrid in an attempt to keep reducing costs, regardless of Barca’s investment in him two years ago. Now, they have also found a solution to Pjanic’s situation.

The former Juventus midfielder arrived from Turin in a swap deal that saw Arthur going in the other direction, with Pjanic signing a contract worth€8m wage per season. Barca were desperate toget rid of this mind-blowing bill and they found a way to resolve it.

Sport reported that Pjanic agreed to a €4 million salary pay cut with Barcelona, who will continue paying him this season. Meanwhile, the Bosnian star willreceivea€2.75 million salary from Besiktas, where he recently arrived on a one-year loan.

It wasn’t what Barcelona were exactly looking for, but at least they reduced his overwhelming salary and Pjanicwould have more playing minutes forhis stock to rise again. Hopefully, next season Barca can either finally sell him or receive a boost from a resurgentPjanic.
