On September 5, 2021, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games have officially come to an end with the closing ceremony, which transferred the torch to Beijing for the Winter Paralympic Games 2022 and the 2024 SummerParalympic Games in Paris.

Tokyo has beenthe first city to host two Paralympic Games since the cityheld the 1964 Paralympics.22 different sports, as well as wheelchair basketball,included athletes with impairments from across the world competing for gold medals.

In 1960, the inaugural Paralympics were held in Rome, and thus, the 2021 Paralympics was the 16th edition. Nearly 5,000 athletes from 163 countries competed in this edition. During the Summer Paralympics 2020, there were a number of remarkable stories that were told and seen.

Paralympics 2021: Final medal count in Tokyo

When the Olympics were held in Rio five years ago, China won the most medals, with Great Britain coming in second. Team China was leading the final medal count in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Gamesuntil the last day when the United States prevailed and finished with the most medals of any nation.

However, the ChineseParalympic Team has finally climbed the top to the most medals won, having grabbed a total of 207 medals, 96 of which gold, 60 silver, and 51 bronze. Great Britain concludedthe Paralympicsin second place with 124medals, 41of which were gold, 38silver, and 45bronze medals.

The Russian Paralympic Committee ended in third with six medals less than the second-placed(36gold, 33silver,49bronze, and 118 total). In addition, the United States and Ukraineround out the top five, with Australia coming in belowthem in sixth.
