The Duke Blue Devils were so close to the ultimate glory that they could taste it. Unfortunately for them and their title aspirations, the Houston Cougars had different plans in mind.
Now, Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Khaman Malauch are ready to take the next step in their careers and declare for the NBA Draft. That could also be the case with Tyrese Proctor.
That’s why this was such a painful loss, as many of the team’s top contributors won’t get another shot at the ultimate glory. That’s also why coach Jon Scheyer got so emotional.
Scheyer tells students he’s ‘heartbroken’
The young coach couldn’t stay in hiding for much longer, and he wanted to address the student community with his head up. Even so, he admitted that it’s been a tough time for him:

Head coach John Scheyer of the Duke Blue Devils.
“I’m heartbroken for the guys… this was our first loss fully healthy since November,” Scheyer told them.
At the end of the day, Duke will always be a contender. And with two high-end recruits like Cameron and Cayden Boozer set to arrive on campus, they will have another shot next season.
