The Duke Blue Devils were either the best or the second-best team in all of college basketball last season. They looked poised to go all the way and win the title.
Unfortunately, a collapse in the Final Four stage got in the way. Now, with Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach, and maybe even Tyrese Proctor entering the NBA, things will look different in Durham.
With that in mind, renowned NCAA analyst Jay Bilas shared his thoughts on the current state of the program and whether Jon Scheyer was the right guy to lead them back to the top.

“Jon’s really smart, so I think they’re going to look at it for what it is,” Bilas told Rich Eisen. “They didn’t execute when they had to, and you look at, well, how do we do this better in the future?… I think Jon will handle it positively. Crushing blow, obviously, but he’s a competitor.”

Of course, it’s never easy to bounce back from such a tough loss, and the narrative around the coach might start turning negative because of these kinds of shortcomings.

Then again, the Blue Devils should continue to be a driving force in the college basketball scene, especially with the Boozer twins arriving in Durham to follow their father’s steps.
