Fred Couples makes surprising revelation about Brooks Koepka’s potential next tournament

The last time Brooks Koepka won a tournament was in 2023, but according to Fred Couples—who has close ties to him—the golfer could be on the verge of returning to a major tournament soon.

Fred Couples is one of those veteran golfers whose words often spark reactions, and his latest comments about Brooks Koepka and a possible return to a major tournament could excite fans eager to see him compete again on U.S. soil.

In his most recent remarks, Couples revealed that he frequently speaks with Koepka, saying, “I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talk to him all the time…” But beyond acknowledging their conversations, Couples made a striking statement: “He wants to come back.”

According to Couples, Koepka’s return would be to the PGA Tour. “I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.” Koepka has not played a tournament on U.S. soil since winning the 2023 PGA Championship over Scottie Scheffler and Norway’s Viktor Hovland.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Koepka will renew his contract with LIV Golf. If he chooses not to, Couples’ comments could become a reality. It’s worth noting that Koepka did not win a major in 2024, something he was clearly frustrated by, stating, “Without a doubt, if I don’t win a major, I think it’s a failure. It’s not a good year.”

Koepka Is Focused Solely on Majors

In a recent interview with Julio Cesar Valdera Morales for Newsweek, Koepka made it clear that his priority is winning majors, not smaller events. “Everything’s a tuneup for the majors,” he said. “It’s what you’re remembered by in history. It’s like anything—you remember championships, right? Nobody asks MJ how many regular-season wins he had?”

Koepka’s Most Recent Tournament

Koepka’s last victory came at the 2024 LIV Golf Greenbrier, where he finished at -19 (64-64-63=191) to edge out Jon Rahm. It was yet another LIV triumph for him, following his 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Jeddah win over Peter Uihlein and his 2023 victory at the same event over Talor Gooch.

Koepka has long been dominant on U.S. soil, winning back-to-back U.S. Open titles in 2017 and 2018, along with two PGA Championships. Beyond those, he also secured the CJ Cup in South Korea, further cementing his reputation as a top-tier competitor.
