Alex Bregman’s move to the Boston Red Sox during the offseason was a major event, marking the end of his nine-season tenure with the Houston Astros. As one of the most influential players in the MLB for that franchise, he returned to the city that shaped much of his career and didn’t hesitate to make a crucial first stop.

This past weekend, the Red Sox third baseman arrived in Houston with his teammates to take on a challenging three-game series — one that proved to be a real test for Alex Cora’s squad.

In an engaging interview with the media published on chron.com, Bregman shared his thoughts on returning to the place where he grew into a professional player — and, fittingly, made it his first stop back.

“We landed yesterday, last night, immediately went to Whataburger. Get back in the Texas swing of things,” Bregman said Monday in Boston’s dugout. “It’s awesome. It’s great to be back here. So many great memories.”

Ahead of the series, general manager Joe Espada expressed his gratitude for all that Bregman contributed, called for respect from the home crowd — but made it clear that, at the end of the day, he now plays for another team, and the goal is still to win.

“This is a great fan base. I expect them to give him a standing ovation, which is well deserved,” Espada said. “[Bregman] helped us win World Series titles here, so, I expect our fans to give him a standing ovation. After that, it’s time to win a game.”

Bregman’s lasting legacy in Houston

As Alex Bregman returned to Minute Maid Park for the first time as a visitor, the stadium’s tribute video and the ensuing standing ovation from the Houston faithful served as a powerful reminder of his immense legacy with the Astros.

While his nine-year tenure was not without its complications, Bregman’s on-field performance and leadership were undeniable. He was a constant presence during the team’s most successful era, a central figure in two World Series championships and multiple deep postseason runs.

Known for his clutch hitting and ability to perform in high-pressure situations, Bregman’s impact extended beyond his impressive statistics, cementing his place as one of the most beloved and impactful players in franchise history.
