The New York Yankees have been pretty quiet to start the MLB offseason. Everybody hoped they'd make a run at one or two starting pitchers, and they haven't even resigned DJ LeMahieu, who's coming off a career year.

LeMahieu was named American League Batting Champion and was the Yankees' most reliable weapon, yet it seems like they're reluctant to meet his pretended salary of roughly $20 million per year.

That's why General Manager Brian Cashman had no choice but to open up on the situation and provide a - non-encouraging - update on where the team stands regarding DJ LeMahieu's situation.

Brian Cashman Admits They've Yet To Meet DJ LeMahieu's Financial Intentions

“We have had discussions and our intent is there. We have good intent when it comes to DJ LeMahieu, when it comes to re-signing him, and think he has the same on his end, but free agency is very tricky when it comes to competition," Cashman said.

"Like always, we’ll come up with what the best options are, but we’re gonna exhaust his option first, which is to try to keep him here. He loves playing in New York. He loves playing for the New York Yankees. There’s a lot of things in our favor, but it ultimately comes down to the financial opportunity we provide compared to the financial opportunity others are providing. That’s the big unknown," he concluded.

Cashman also added that the team 'will improve their starting rotation if they can'. Yet, they haven't made a run at any of the starting pitchers that entered free agency this season or resigned Masahiro Tanaka.

It's still pretty early to tell but it seems like the Yankees are reluctant to keep spending. That's understandable given the context of the pandemic, but it'll only make it tougher for them to put their World Series drought to an end.
