Eugenio Suárez took a fastball off his hand in what was a scary moment for the Arizona Diamondbacks, especially considering he’s been one of the team’s most reliable players this season. But after the game, the Venezuelan third baseman spoke to reporters to clear the air about his hand.

Following the painful hit, fans were eager for an update—not just about his health, but also about how it might impact his performance and trade value with the MLB trade deadline approaching. Fortunately, Suárez himself confirmed that X-rays came back negative, with no fractures or bone damage in his hand.

With that news, the chances of a potential trade involving Suárez have grown more realistic, though nothing is confirmed yet. As always, the days leading up to the trade deadline can be chaotic, with last-minute moves across the league.

Detroit showing interest in Suárez

The pitch that hit Suárez was a 96 mph fastball from Tigers reliever Will Vest. The reaction from fans—particularly in Detroit—was mixed, with many already aware of the Tigers’ reported interest in acquiring a third baseman. That interest was confirmed by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

“According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Tigers would like to have Suárez on the roster before the Diamondbacks leave town – they are in Detroit for a three-game series that began with Monday’s 5-1 win for the Tigers,” reported Shawn Windsor for the Detroit Free Press.

When could a Suárez trade happen?

The window between Tuesday and Wednesday could bring the first real signs of movement regarding Suárez’s future. The MLB trade deadline is set for July 31 at 6 p.m. ET. After that point, Suárez would remain with the Diamondbacks through the end of the season, unless moved through waivers or offseason deals.
