Juan Soto finally delivered what many fans had been waiting for: his first home run as a member of the New York Mets. But while the moment caught the attention of plenty, the Dominican slugger made it clear in his recent comments that those moonshots weren’t as meaningful as people might think.
After the Mets‘ loss to the Diamondbacks, Soto addressed the media and was asked whether the pair of home runs helped ease any pressure he might’ve been feeling. His response was direct — he’s not feeling any pressure at all — and he downplayed the significance of the two blasts because they didn’t lead to a win.
“What pressure? I don’t have any pressure at all,” Soto said in a video shared by SNY. “This guy… [Carlos] Mendoza has been very clear with me to make me feel comfortable and go out there and play. I don’t have any pressure at all… just two homers that weren’t enough to get the win so… whatever.”
How many home runs does Soto have in 2025?
So far, Soto has hit 5 home runs during the 2025 MLB season. The game against the Diamondbacks marked the first time this year he’s hit two in a single game. He previously had back-to-back home runs, but in separate games.
At this point last season with the Yankees, through 32 games, Soto had already hit 8 home runs. He’s currently sitting three behind that pace, with a .252 batting average. In 2024, through the same number of games, he was batting .325.
