Juan Soto continues to produce for his new team, but he’s also learning from teammates who’ve made their mark with the New York Mets—like one veteran who just reached a major milestone and credited the organization for shaping him.
That player is Brandon Nimmo, who recently played in his 1,000th career MLB game—a journey that began back in 2016. Reflecting on the achievement, Nimmo said: “I became a man in this organization. I hope the fan bases enjoyed this ride as much as I have.” Over the course of his career, Nimmo has totaled more than 4,080 plate appearances in a Mets uniform.
Unfortunately, game No. 1,001 came in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Soto managed just one run, while Nimmo had a stronger performance, going 2-for-4 with a run scored in the final game of a four-game series.
How long does it take to reach 1,000 MLB games?
It usually takes around 10 years or less. In Nimmo’s case, injuries and limited playing time slowed his progress. Since debuting in 2016, he has played more than 100 games in only four seasons. Had he stayed healthy and played a full schedule each year, he likely would’ve hit the milestone sooner.

Juan Soto, on the other hand, reached the 1,000-game mark faster. Now in his eighth MLB season, Soto has already appeared in 1,029 games. He officially crossed the 1,000-game threshold earlier this year while with the Mets, having already played over 90 games this season alone.
Who leads the Mets in career games on the current roster?
That honor belongs to Starling Marte, who has played in 1,490 career games and logged 6,166 plate appearances over 14 seasons. Marte joined the Mets in 2022. Francisco Lindor ranks second on the team with 1,467 career games in just 11 seasons.
