According to a report from Jon Heyman, the Mets have notified five players who will be part of their starting lineup next season. Among them is Juan Soto, though he wonât be batting leadoffâthat spot will belong to Francisco Lindor. While the exact reasoning behind the decision remains unclear, it is the structure the team has chosen.
Lindor, now entering his fourth season with the Mets, posted solid numbers in 2024. He had 689 plate appearances, recording 107 runs, 169 hits, and 33 home runs. However, he also struck out 127 times, marking his third consecutive season with 120+ strikeouts (133 in 2022, 137 in 2023âhis career high).
Soto, who will hit second in the order, has already shown strong form during spring training. In 2024 with the Yankees, he put up stellar numbers, playing in 157 gamesâhis second-highest total in a seasonâand making 713 plate appearances. He also set a personal record with 128 runs scored, while adding 166 hits and 41 home runs.

With Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto leading off, Pete Alonso is expected to bat third. Alonso was a key contributor last season, playing in all 162 games and delivering 88 RBIs, 34 home runs, and 695 plate appearances.
