Mike Trout’s $245M teammate has played fewer than 260 games in 5 years with the Angels

A player that expensive, who has played so little while sharing a roster with Mike Trout—who’s managed to return from multiple serious injuries—is no small story. It’s one of the most frustrating cases the Los Angeles Angels are dealing with.

Mike Trout is one of the few stars with a massive contract who has managed to battle through injuries and keep playing—but one of his teammates on the Los Angeles Angels has barely appeared in less than 260 games over five years, a stretch marked by constant setbacks.

The player in question, who still holds a major contract and has been with Trout since 2020, is Anthony Rendon. Unfortunately, he’ll once again be unavailable in 2025 after undergoing hip surgery prior to the start of spring training.

Since signing his deal with Trout’s Angels in 2020, Rendon has played in just 257 games with the team. That averages out to only 51.4 games per season over the past five years.

How much has Rendon earned so far with the Angels?

Despite the limited playing time, Rendon continues to receive full pay under his lucrative deal. Last season alone, he earned $38 million while playing just 57 games. In total, he’s collected $190 million from the Angels (including his 2025 salary). He still has one more year left on his contract in 2026, which will be the final season of his deal.

What about Trout?

Trout hasn’t exactly had a clean bill of health either. He’s dealt with several injuries over the same five-year span, appearing in just 348 MLB games. Still, he remains under contract with the Angels as part of his 12-year, $426 million deal, which runs through 2030.
