Alex Verdugo can finally breathe a sigh of relief as he has secured a new team for the 2025 MLB season. After parting ways with the New York Yankees and facing limited offers on the table, Verdugo ultimately signed a modest contract with a strong NL team.
According to Jon Heyman, Verdugo agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million with the Atlanta Braves. While the amount is relatively low, the deal ensures heâll be back on the field next season, joining a solid team alongside standout teammates like Ronald Acuña Jr.
Verdugo had a relatively solid year with the Yankees in 2024, recording 621 plate appearancesâa career-high in that category. He contributed 74 runs, 130 hits, 61 RBIs, and 13 home runs to the team. While his performance wasnât as productive as it was during his time in Boston, his numbers werenât too shabby.
Itâs unclear what position Verdugo will play with the Braves, as their outfield is already set for the upcoming season. For now, fans will have to wait for an official announcement from the team. What is certain, however, is that he will join outfield teammates Harris, Profar, Acuña, and Kalenes.

A Significant Pay Cut for Alex Verdugo
One and a half million dollars seems like a fairly low salary for a player with Verdugoâs experience. Especially considering that in the 2024 season, he earned a total of $8.5 million with the Yankeesâa staggering $7 million decrease in earnings.

What Verdugo Could Bring to the Braves
According to Baseball Reference, Verdugo has promising projections for 2025, with over 570 plate appearances, 70 runs, 131 hits, and at least 12 home runs. Paired with players like Acuña, this could be the perfect combination or the boost the Braves need to make another push for a World Series.
