Bryce Harper, one of baseball’s most iconic figures of the 21st century, has a history of memorable performances on Opening Days. This year, the Philadelphia Phillies‘ star player looks to add another remarkable chapter to that story as his team faces the Washington Nationals to kick off the 2025 MLB season.

The Phillies, coming off their recent NL East title and with renewed ambitions of reaching the World Series, are relying on their powerful lineup, led by ace pitchers Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, and the likely future Hall of Famer, Bryce Harper. The spotlight is on Harper and his quest to join a select group of baseball legends, an accomplishment that would further solidify his already impressive career.

Heading into his 14th major league season, Harper boasts a career .281 batting average and 336 home runs, having played for both the Nationals and Phillies. His experience and ability to perform in critical moments make him a central figure in the Phillies’ aspirations. The Nationals, despite finishing fourth in their division last season, have rising stars like Dylan Crews and James Wood, promising an exciting matchup.

Harper has already accomplished this feat twice during his career. To do so this year, he will need to surpass left-hander MacKenzie Gore, who will start for the Nationals. Coming off an impressive season where he hit .285 with 30 home runs, Harper continues to solidify his status as one of the top players of his generation. With two MVP awards, four Silver Sluggers, and eight All-Star selections, his resume speaks for itself.
